Pictures at a Blogxibition #1: The Hansens
Love Beck? I do. Ever wonder where he got his genius? Runs in the family. His grandfather was FLUXUS artist extraordinaire Al Hansen.
First, listen to Beck put it all together aurally–aural collage.
Then, see what Al Hansen did with Hershey’s wrappers decades before.
The same, kinda, yes?
“….she’s got a cigarette on each arm….”
Says last.fm, “Beck’s music is known for its pop-junk culture collage of musical styles, ironic lyrics, samples, drum machines, live instrumentation and heady sound effects.”
Says me: they’re both awesome, and I don’t think we should draw lines between the so-called visual and musical arts as much as the commercial dudes say we should.

Beck’s mom was a founding member of Black Flag.
Some of the above photos, from alhansen.net, where U can read more—including his famous Dennis Hopper piece, that mentions his little grandson, Beck.
Gosh, I’ve got to stop being obsessed with Beck. I get so didactic when I’m obsessed.
