Meanwhile, at P.S.1 (nobody wants to play?); I thought Greater New York was supposed to be…ballsy.

“Greater New York” still rules the airwaves and byways at P.S. 1. All that’s fit to hang that’s hip. Or some phrase like that applies. Still… I wish the vibe there encouraged cooperation. Nobody really wanted to come out and play (and help me figure out how to get all those balls off the nets and [...]

Banner day in Bushwick. Land where galleries and street art Rocks.

The location: Sugar gallery at 449 Troutman Street, in Bushwick. The artist: Jacqueline Lou Skaggs. The medium: “Oil on Penny.” they appeared, framed like little portholes, in the midst of pristine, circular mats, edged with distressed gilt frames on ‘moongold’ leaf. The setting: a salon-style gallery (namely, a private loft, generously opened to the Public) from 1–6PM on [...]

overheard in corner coffee bar: sacrilege

…namely, the barista asking the poor guy behind me if he didn’t mind getting his coffee [only 2/3rd filled] topped off with decaf. Seems she hadn’t made enough “regular” coffee, and thought it would be more expedient just to substitute. As though the cup determined what went in. He was stunned speechless, as were we all. My KeepCup (ordered [...]

Stuart Nicholson, Man of Our Time

..was memorialized yesterday by many many loved ones in his home/gallery on Van Brunt Street. It is an understatement to say that he is sorely missed. This is a detail of some of the work he was doing just before he passed away. Seems he picked up a piece of this wire while he was diagnosed [...]

Street Art, (dis)course: Discuss

As a writer, I’ve long been dedicated to Fine Art (painting, sculpture, installation, video) and perhaps, always will be. But I also think that this art—what’s commonly known as Graffiti Art or Street Art—deserves to be talked of in the language of high art, indoor art. (Hey: do you think I’m the person to do [...]

Post Temple Destruction; Post Living Temple Rubbing; movin’ on.

One person seemed to ‘get’ what I’m doing with my NineDays project — probably better than I did. A rabbi friend of mine (Avram Tov). He called it my personal “minhag“* which I thought was the best compliment, ever. So this year’s been good. Thanks to everyone who participated, and encouraged, and even just watched as I tried [...]

Street art is the Best art: Atlantic Avenue Report

Maybe you’ve noticed that I’ve been writing about my visits to Brooklyn artist’s studios lately—both the art inside the those studios, and the walk I took to get there. Now, I am solidifying my obsession with “gettingtoart” into a new conclusion: there is no place worth getting to; You’re already there. Yes, its The Street Art Report [...]
